Pardeep Narwal’s 11 raid points helped Patna Pirates to an impressive 41-30 win over Jaipur Pink Panthers in the Inter-Zone Challenge Week at the Patliputra Sports Complex in Patna on Friday. The match also witnessed two milestones being achieved as Anup Kumar crossed 500 raid points in VIVO Pro Kabaddi and Narwal became the leading Super 10 scorer in the league’s history.
The match began with Kumar on the cusp of becoming the 6th player to 500 raid points in the league, a feat he achieved in the 6th minute. The early exchanges were closely fought with both teams exchanging points until the 5th minute where Narwal got the game’s first Super Raid to put Patna Pirates in the lead at 5-3.
Kumar got a Super Raid right back to retrieve the lead for Jaipur Pink Panthers at 6-5. The teams continued exchanging points and were level at 8-8 before Narwal’s second Super Raid in the 9th minute got rid of Anup Kumar, Ajinkya Pawar and Mohit Chhillar to help Patna Pirates regain the lead.
With his next raid, Narwal helped inflict the game’s first All-Out with a touch on Deepak Niwas Hooda after Amit Kumar had stepped out of the playing area. This gave Patna Pirates a 6-point lead with the scores at 15-9.
The teams kept on getting points regularly and there were only 2 Do-or-Die raids in the 1st half. Off the second of those raids, Pawar was tackled by Jaideep to increase Patna Pirates’ lead to 7 points. Narwal then got a touch on Dhull to finish the half with 9 raid points.
The final point of the half went Jaipur Pink Panthers’ way courtesy a bonus from Ajit Singh to reduce the deficit to 7 points with the scores reading 22-15.
The second half started in a strongly for Patna Pirates as Jaideep tackled Ajit Singh before Jaipur Pink Panthers reeled off 5 points to start hopes of a comeback.
But Narwal got a touch point on Hooda in the 7th minute to get to a record-breaking 33rd Super 10 in VIVO Pro Kabaddi and get back momentum for his team. This increased their lead to 5 points with the scores at 26-21. Patna Pirates started getting points in a hurry after this as they inflicted a second All-Out on Jaipur Pink Panthers in the 11th minute.
Jaipur Pink Panthers started staging another comeback, inspired by Kumar’s Super Raid in the 13th minute to decrease the deficit to 9 points. Jaideep, though, didn’t allow the effort to get far, as he helped himself to a High 5 with a tackle on Kumar in the 15th minute.
With Patna Pirates scoring points at will, Jaipur Pink Panthers managed to retrieve 4 points in succession. But Kale put the cherry on the cake with a Super Tackle on Hooda to help Patna Pirates take the win and move to the second spot in Zone B.
